Tips
The rules of the game are in Help. Here is what helps players find more words, need fewer hints and score more points.
How to find more words
Start with the short ones. The board shows how many letters each word has. Three-letter words are the easiest to spot, and every word you reveal narrows down the rest.
Start from the longest and shorten it. The last row of the board uses every letter of the wheel. Once you find it, try taking a letter or two out of it. For example: from the letters of CURIOUS you get SCOUR, take away the C and SOUR is left, and inside SOUR there is OUR.
Shuffle. The "Shuffle" button is free. With the same arrangement your eye keeps seeing the same pairs of letters, and a new one often shows a word that hadn't caught your eye before.
Mind the vowels. Almost every English word has A, E, I, O or U, or a Y doing a vowel's job (SKY, GYM). When you build a word, put a vowel between the consonants and try swapping it for another.
Look for familiar beginnings and endings. In English, RE-, UN-, IN- and DIS- often help at the start, and -ER, -LY, -ION, -NESS and -ABLE at the end. If you see an R and an E on the wheel, try putting them at the end.
Swap two letters. A word that isn't in the puzzle is sometimes just two tiles away from a real one. The same letters in another order make NOTE and TONE, EVIL and VILE, LISTEN and SILENT.
Don't waste time on forms. The game accepts basic forms: a noun in the singular, a verb in its base form. HOUSE counts, HOUSES doesn't; SING counts, SINGS, SANG and SINGING don't. So don't add an S.
Say it out loud. When you're stuck, slowly say the syllables you see on the wheel. Your ear often recognises a word before your eye does.
Bonus words
A bonus word is a word made from the same letters that isn't on the board. You don't need it to finish the level, but it pays:
- in single player it brings 3 points per letter and, the first time you solve the level, 1 coin per bonus word (at most 5);
- in a match it brings 2 points per letter, at most 300 points in a round.
The level ends as soon as you fill the board. If you want the coins for bonus words, look for them before the last word on the board. In a match it's the other way round: words on the board first (they bring extra points for being first in the room), and bonus words when you're stuck.
When to take a hint
A hint costs 100 coins, and a new level brings 5 to 15. So one hint is the pay for several levels. Before you take one:
- shuffle the letters once or twice;
- solve the shorter words and see which letters are left;
- try a familiar beginning or ending.
If it still doesn't come, give the hint to the word you're stuck on, usually the longest: its first letter helps more than a letter of a short word. A hint reveals the first hidden letter from the left, and you can take more than one on the same word. A hint never reveals the last letter of a word.
What a hint costs besides coins:
- a word with a hint scores 75 % of its points (in a match 70 %, and with no extra for being first in the room);
- the level is no longer "clean" (no +50);
- with one hint you can get at most two stars, and with more of them one.
Three stars and more points
You get three stars for a level solved without a hint and within the set time: 4 seconds per letter of all the words on the board, and at least 45 seconds. The first time you get three stars on a level, 5 coins come with them.
A streak brings +5 for the second word in a row, +10 for the third, +15 for the fourth and +20 for each one after. A word that isn't in the puzzle breaks the streak, so don't guess at random: think for a moment rather than submit a wrong word.
Speed brings 2 points for every second under the set time, at most 200. Solving more slowly isn't penalised, so there is no hurry if you'd rather take your time.
A clean level (+50) means playing without a hint and with at most one word that isn't in the puzzle. "Already found" doesn't count as a mistake.
Tips for a match
- Long words first. Whoever finds a word first in the room gets +5 per letter. For the longest word that is 25 to 40 points.
- The whole board brings +50 and leaves the others only 10 seconds. When somebody finishes, submit every word you know straight away.
- A wrong word costs no points, but you can submit the next one only after three quarters of a second. Guessing at random slows you down.
- A hint in a match is expensive: 100 coins, 70 % of the points and no extra for being first in the room. Keep it for the end of a round, when you're stuck on the last word.
- Don't leave the room during a match. Leaving means giving up and costs 100 LP. If your connection drops, you have 60 seconds to come back; on an iPhone the game mustn't be in the background that long.
- Winning a round brings coins: one for each opponent in that round.
- With an equal total the player who won more rounds is ahead, so play the last round to the end too.
How the languages differ
You choose the puzzle language in "Settings → Display → Puzzle language", separately from the interface language. Each language has its own letters:
- Croatian: Č, Ć, Đ, Š and Ž are tiles of their own. LJ, NJ and DŽ are two letters, each on its own tile (BOLJE = B, O, L, J, E). There is no Q, W, X or Y.
- English: 26 letters without accents. British spellings such as COLOUR count too.
- German: Ä, Ö and Ü are tiles of their own, and ß is written as SS (STRASSE).
- French: accented letters are separate tiles (É isn't E, À isn't A), and Œ and Æ are one letter each (CŒUR).
- Spanish: Ñ is a letter of its own (AÑO), and so are Á, É, Í, Ó, Ú and Ü.
- Italian: À, È, É, Ì, Ò and Ù are tiles of their own (CITTÀ, PERCHÉ, PIÙ).
Playing in a foreign language is a good way to practise it: the menus stay in your language and the words are in the one you're learning. Levels and records are kept for each language separately, and coins are shared.
How to collect coins
- Solve new levels: 5 coins each, up to 5 more for bonus words and another 5 for your first three stars.
- Win rounds in matches: one coin per opponent.
- In the app, watch a short ad ("Earn coins"): 50 coins.
- Spend them only on the hints you really need (see "When to take a hint").
